Yan Yean Water Supply Tour
Did you know that Yan Yean Reservoir was not only Melbourne’s first reservoir, but remains one of the oldest functioning water systems in Australia today?
Yan Yean Reservoir was completed in 1857. Considered to be an engineering marvel, it used ancient techniques of civil engineering to augment the natural water courses of the Plenty River and to serve as a repository of drinking water for the city.
Join local historian Lindsay Mann and Paul Balassone from Melbourne Water to learn about the Reservoir’s historical significance, and future challenges in the management of heritage values of this early water supply.
This is an all-day event, commencing at Yan Yean Reservoir’s Caretakers Cottage and concluding at Wallaby Creek.
Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.
