The Doreen Brigade has been busy with preparing members and equipment for the coming summer season, as well as enhancing our skill levels to deal with the increasing urban environment in Doreen. Five new members have completed their recruit training and will shortly be fully operational. We’ve also been busy with driver training to ensure we have enough drivers to maintain round the clock operations during summer if required. Whilst we currently have enough trained and active firefighters, we do need help with non-operational jobs:
· non-operational duties include catering, gardening and fund-raising
· Our local Group of Brigades also runs the local Divisional Command points and they need people for this summer to assist with many administrative duties.
You are most welcome to call in on a Sunday Morning and have a closer look at what we do and what you may be able to do to help. Doreen CFA is 100% run by volunteers, so we rely on your support.
A Grant from the Doreen & Mernda Community Bank, has allowed the brigade to purchase some new equipment to enhance our capability in dealing with building fires. For example, we recently purchased a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan which is a petrol powered fan unit and will allow us to quickly clear smoke from buildings to assist with the firefighting and reduce smoke damage to the contents.
After the last summer bushfire season many people wanted to know more about how to prepare and what to do in bushfire situations. If you would like to attend a meeting please check the CFA Website (search for ‘Community Meetings’).
