Come along to 2011 Sustainable Homes Expo on Saturday 6 August

Sustainable homes

The City of Whittlesea is holding a Sustainable Homes Expo at Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre, 35 Ferres Blvd, South Morang, from 10 am – 4pm on Saturday 6 August.

Come along to the free expo and hop on your bike to try to generate enough energy to run the Expo at the Future Spark Power Trailer.

This major local environmental event can help you learn about:

  • making smarter decisions by better understanding the range of home sustainability products and services available in this ever-growing market
  • effectively reducing your energy and water use at home, saving you money
  • creating a chemical-free home
  • making the most efficient use of your property
  • what features and orientation to look for in an older home to make future sustainable renovations more effective
  • building using eco-friendly materials
  • how your food choices can impact the environment, and the options available from local growers and producers
  • saving electricity in the home through gap sealing or adjusting the temperature set point of your hot water, and heating and cooling systems
  • solar electricity (photovoltaic) systems, rebates, feed-in tariffs, likely costs and savings and smart meters
  • double glazing and insulation
  • sustainable options for your baby including different types of nappies and the best ways to keep your child warm in winter
  • choosing the best bike, safe riding tips and some of the best routes in the City of Whittlesea

On the day, you can also book in for a free installation upgrade of energy-efficient light bulbs or a water efficient showerhead, and vote on your favourite invention from the Young Green Inventors school competition.
