Birds of Whittlesea Information Session and Field Survey

On Thursday 20 January the Melbourne Branch of Bird Observation and Conservation Australia (MELBOCA) will be giving a presentation about the birds of the Whittlesea area and their habitat requirements.
The bushfires in February 2009 had a significant impact on local bird populations. Fortunately, many bird species have now moved back as the vegetation recovers. Over time, bird diversity will increase as the bush re-grows and provides the habitat and food to support them.
The 1½ hour presentation is being held at the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre, Laurel Street, Whittlesea, and will start at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served. All Welcome, no booking required.
On Saturday 22 January, volunteers from MELBOCA will lead a field survey to teach landowners how to identify some local species and how people can conduct their own surveys to contribute to our knowledge of biodiversity of the area.
The field survey will be held at 250 Coombs Road, Kinglake West from 9am to 11.30am followed by a light picnic lunch.
Places for the field survey are limited so to register your interest please call Rhian Fisher, Project Support Officer on 9217 2527 or email RSVP by Friday 14 January.
